Memorial Day 2023

Almighty and eternal God, on this Memorial Day, we come to You in prayer, seeking your grace and mercy. Today, we remember with deep gratitude and profound respect, the selfless men and women who have given their lives in service to our country and in defense of freedom.

We pray for the souls of our brave and selfless soldiers, those who made the ultimate sacrifice so that we may live in peace, so that we may enjoy time with our families, so that we may express our thoughts and beliefs freely, so that we may strive for the pursuit of happiness. May their courage and dedication never be forgotten. We ask for your infinite grace to be upon them, granting them eternal rest, happiness, and peace.

We pray for the families they left behind, for their wives and husbands, for their children, for their parents, and for their friends. May Your comfort and peace envelop them in their time of grief. We ask for Your healing hand to mend the wounds of their loss, and Your light to guide them in the darkness of their sorrow.

We pray for our nation, the United States of America, in all her strength and fragility. Guide us, O Lord, to create a land that upholds liberty, equality, justice, and humanity - a land truly worth defending.

We pray for our Christian friends, our Jewish friends, and our Muslim friends, and friends of all faiths. May we remember that, above all, we are Americans united by the principles that define us. May we embrace our diversity, respect our differences, and uphold our shared values.

We pray for peace, love, and understanding among us all. Let us stand shoulder to shoulder, irrespective of our faiths, races, and ideologies, acknowledging our shared aspirations and our collective role in shaping a better, safer, and more harmonious nation.

May we never forget that we are, first and foremost, children of God and citizens of this great nation, bound by the common thread of humanity. Help us to strive for unity, to uphold justice, to extend compassion, and to express gratitude.

On this Memorial Day, as we honor those who have paid the ultimate price, remind us of our responsibilities to be worthy of their sacrifice. Guide us towards a path of peace, unity, and love, so that we may truly create an America worth dying for.

In Your most Holy Name, we pray.

Amen.
