The Lesson of the Screw: Which Direction Are You Turning Your Life?

One of the simplest inventions in history may also teach one of life’s greatest lessons. Take a common screw. If you want to build something that is strong, stable, secure, and valuable, you turn the screw to the right. Righty tighty.
Every turn strengthens the connection. Every turn adds stability. Every turn increases the integrity of the structure. But if you want to take something apart, loosen it, weaken it, or eventually destroy it, you turn the screw to the left. Lefty loosey.
Every turn removes strength. Every turn reduces security. Every turn moves the structure one step closer to coming apart. The same principle applies to our lives. Every decision we make is another turn of the screw.
When we choose honesty over deception… Responsibility over excuses… Discipline over laziness…Kindness over anger…Education over ignorance…Saving over spending…Service over selfishness…Integrity over shortcuts…We are turning the screw to the right.
We are building a stronger family. A stronger business. A stronger community. A stronger nation. A stronger future.
On the other hand, every poor decision also turns the screw.
When we embrace dishonesty…Avoid responsibility…Ignore our health…Waste opportunities…Break promises…Create division…Or abandon our principles…We slowly loosen the very things that hold our lives together. Rarely does something collapse all at once. Most failures happen one turn at a time.
The encouraging news is that the opposite is also true. Success is built one turn at a time. A better marriage. A successful business. Financial freedom. Good health. Trust. Leadership. Character.
They are all created by consistently making small decisions that tighten the foundation.
The next time you pick up a screwdriver, remember that it offers more than a mechanical lesson. It offers a life lesson. Every day you have the choice to build or to dismantle. To strengthen or to weaken. To create value or to destroy it.
The question is simple: Which direction are you turning the screw today?
