Broward Democrats now want FREE labor from Teachers.

Broward Teachers Asked to Teach for Free — Because the Democratic Machine Is Addicted to “Something for Nothing”

By Robert W. Sutton — Conservative Financial Educator & Broward Teacher.

There’s a pattern in Broward County — and frankly, across every Democrat-run district in America.

The Democratic Party has built an entire political culture on getting something for free:

  • Free college

  • Free healthcare

  • Free housing

  • Free phone service

  • Free groceries

  • Free transportation

  • Free benefits for people who entered the country illegally

And now, unbelievably…

➤ They want free labor from teachers.

That’s right. Broward County Public Schools — run by a Democrat-majority board and a Democrat-aligned bureaucracy — is quietly shifting teachers from supervising a study hall to teaching an additional full classwith zero additional pay.

Same paycheck. More grading. More planning. More stress. More students.

And somehow, in their political worldview, this is acceptable.

This Isn’t an Accident — It’s Ideology

Democrat-run systems operate on one basic assumption:

“Someone else will pick up the tab.”

Whether it’s taxpayers, small business owners, or in this case, exhausted teachers — someone has to carry the weight of their promises.

So when Broward Democrats look at a study hall and think:

“Why pay for additional teaching when we can force teachers to do it for free?”

…it’s the same mindset that drives every other “freebie” program they champion.

They give away benefits on one end and squeeze the workers on the other.

And in this case, the workers are teachers.

How the Scheme Works

Here’s the play:

  1. Eliminate study hall / personalization periods.

These were previously non-instructional duty blocks.

  2. Replace them with real academic classes.

Full teaching load. More students. More responsibility.

  3. Pretend it’s not an “extra period.”

So they don’t have to pay the required extra-period stipend.

  4. Rebrand the schedule so six classes magically become “normal.”

This isn’t “budget efficiency.”

This is political sleight-of-hand — the Democrat way of stretching a dollar by stretching you.

But the Union Contract Says the Opposite

The contract is clear:

  • When a teacher is assigned an extra instructional period,

  • They must receive extra compensation.

Democrat leadership’s response?

Redefine the schedule so the extra class no longer “counts” as extra.

Translation:

“We found a loophole. Now shut up and teach for free.”

This is exactly the kind of bureaucratic trick Democrats use in every sector — move definitions, change labels, and call exploitation “equity.”

Why Teachers Are Fed Up

Because this isn’t just about money — it’s about respect.

Democrats say they “love teachers.”

They march with teachers. They campaign on “supporting education.”

But when it’s time to pay teachers for more work, suddenly Democrats turn into “fiscal conservatives.” Except they never cut costs in administration. Never cut bloated consultant fees. Never cut political projects or DEI programs. They only cut from the classroom —because teachers, like taxpayers, are expected to “do more” to support their agenda.

If Democrats Want Free Labor… They Can Volunteer Themselves

Here’s the truth:

Teachers already:

  • Work unpaid hours

  • Buy supplies out-of-pocket

  • Cover classes during shortages

  • Mentor, tutor, counsel, support

  • Sacrifice family time

And now Democrats want us to replace study hall with a real teaching assignment and smile about it? Absolutely not. If the Democratic Party wants “something for nothing,” they can volunteer their own time. Because teachers in Broward did not sign up to be

free labor for a political ideology that overspends, overpromises, and under-delivers.

Enough. Respect the Work. Pay for the Work.

A district cannot cry about teacher shortages and then demand teachers teach more for free.

A party cannot scream about “workers’ rights” while quietly stripping teachers of compensation they’ve earned. And a community cannot claim to value education

while allowing politicians to exploit the very people who make education possible.

Call to Action

Broward teachers must push back — hard. Parents must speak up. Taxpayers must demand accountability. And Broward voters must start recognizing the truth:

When Democrats run a system, they don’t “support” workers —they extract from them.

Teachers deserve better.

Students deserve better.

Taxpayers deserve better.

And Broward County deserves leadership that respects labor —not leadership that treats teachers like free labor.
