High School Entrepreneurs Launch “MS Gulf Coast Can Cleaners” to Keep Ocean Springs Neighborhoods Fresh and Inspire Local Youth
OCEAN SPRINGS, MISS. — Two ambitious high school students, Cohen Thomas and Ben Sutton, have turned a simple summer idea into a fast-growing business venture serving communities across the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Their new company, MS Gulf Coast Can Cleaners, is transforming the dirty job of cleaning trash bins into an entrepreneurial opportunity—and a lesson in leadership.
The inspiration? A short video clip on social media. The goal? Make some money over the summer, stay productive, and offer a service everyone needs but nobody wants to do themselves.
“We saw the idea online and thought, ‘Hey, we can do that,’” said co-founder Ben Sutton. “We had time, drive, and a desire to make something happen.”
With encouragement from their families, community leaders, and school mentors, Cohen and Ben launched the business with a few tools, a water system, and a vision. Now, they’re offering affordable, eco-friendly curbside bin cleaning services throughout Ocean Springs and surrounding Gulf Coast neighborhoods.
Chairman Bob Sutton, conservative strategist and long-time small-business educator, praised the young entrepreneurs for their initiative.
“Listen. This is what I preach in every classroom and council chamber: entrepreneurship is patriotic,” Sutton said. “When teenagers roll up their sleeves, they build more than a business. They build discipline, community trust, and future leadership. Cohen and Ben are doing just that—one trash can at a time.”
Sutton, who teaches financial literacy and entrepreneurship to hundreds of students annually, added, “These boys didn’t wait for a handout. They found a need, built a solution, and brought it to market. That’s the American spirit in action.”
MS Gulf Coast Can Cleaners is more than a summer hustle. It’s a call to action for neighbors to support youth-led businesses and give students real-world experience that matters.
