Honoring Constitution Day: The Birth of American Liberty

ree

On September 17, 1787, the delegates to the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia signed one of the greatest documents in human history — the United States Constitution. It provided the framework for a government based on liberty, limited power, and the consent of the governed.

The ratification process concluded on June 21, 1788, when New Hampshire became the ninth state to approve it, officially giving life to the Constitution. The new system of government went into effect on March 4, 1789, laying the foundation for the freedoms Americans cherish today.

For nearly 250 years, this remarkable document has stood as the oldest written and codified national constitution still in force in the world. Its endurance testifies to the wisdom of the Founding Fathers and their belief in checks and balances, federalism, and the God-given rights of the individual.

Today, as we celebrate Constitution Day, we are reminded that liberty is not guaranteed. It requires vigilance, respect for the rule of law, and a commitment to preserving the principles enshrined in 1787. May we never take for granted the blessings of freedom and continue striving to create a “more perfect union.”

God Bless the United States of America!
