A Challenge to the Tax-and-Take - and “Redistribute” Politicians

As a financial literacy teacher, entrepreneur, and student of economic history, I have a simple challenge for every politician who constantly talks about taxing the rich, taxing producers, taxing creators, taxing inventors, and taxing those who develop intellectual property.

Instead of taking more from those who create value, why not create value yourself?

If you truly believe you have the solutions to society's problems, then prove it in the marketplace. Start a business. Create a product. Provide a service. Write a book. Develop software. Invent something. Build a company. Create jobs. Generate wealth. Then, if your cause is so important, donate 100% of your profits to it. No legislation required. No tax increases required. No government mandates required. Just voluntary action backed by your own effort and conviction.

Throughout history, societies became wealthier when people solved problems, created value, and exchanged goods and services voluntarily. The entrepreneur who opens a restaurant, the inventor who creates a new technology, the farmer who grows food, the author who writes a book, and the engineer who develops a patent all contribute something of value to others. Production creates wealth. Innovation creates wealth. Service creates wealth. Opportunity creates wealth.

The question is simple: If a politician believes more money should be directed toward a particular cause, why not become a producer and direct their own earnings toward that cause?

Imagine if every elected official who advocated for higher taxes started a business and pledged all profits to housing, education, healthcare, environmental conservation, veterans' services, or poverty relief. The result would be remarkable. New businesses would be created. Jobs would be generated. Goods and services would be produced. Tax revenue would increase naturally through economic growth and charitable causes would receive funding voluntarily rather than through coercion.

That is the beauty of a free society. People are free to pursue their dreams, build enterprises, create intellectual property, generate wealth, and give generously to the causes they believe in. The greatest acts of charity often begin with production, not redistribution.

Before asking others to surrender more of what they have earned, perhaps the better question is: What have I created? What problem have I solved? What value have I produced? What am I willing to contribute from my own labor, risk, and investment?

If the goal is truly to help people, there is no shortage of opportunities to build something valuable and donate the proceeds.

That challenge is open to every politician, every activist, and every citizen. Create. Produce. Serve. Give. Lead by example.
