Democracy Works Best When We All Participate.  Keeping our Republic strong requires your participation.

As another election season unfolds, I want to take a moment to wish every candidate on the campaign trail my very best. Regardless of party, philosophy, or the office being sought, it takes courage, commitment, and countless hours of hard work to step forward and ask your community for the opportunity to serve.

Thank you to each candidate for bringing important issues before the public. Healthy debate, new ideas, and thoughtful conversations are essential to a strong republic. Every campaign gives voters the opportunity to learn, ask questions, and make informed decisions about the future of their communities.

I would also like to share a message with those who choose not to vote or participate in the electoral process. Too often, people say that politics doesn't matter or that their vote won't make a difference. Yet history has repeatedly shown that many elections are decided by small margins, and every election determines who will make decisions that affect our schools, neighborhoods, businesses, public safety, taxes, infrastructure, and quality of life.

When citizens choose not to participate, they also give up the opportunity to help shape the outcome. Active, informed participation is one of the greatest responsibilities—and privileges—of citizenship.

If you've ever considered running for office, volunteering on a campaign, serving on a board, or simply becoming a more informed voter, there has never been a better time to get involved.

For those interested in learning how campaigns really work, I encourage you to read The Candidate's Playbook, co-authored by Celeste Ellich and Bob Sutton. Drawing on decades of real-world campaign experience, the book offers practical guidance for first-time candidates, campaign volunteers, and community leaders who want to better understand the electoral process. Topics include campaign planning, fundraising, voter outreach, messaging, endorsements, and Election Day preparation. (The Candidates Playbook)
