💡 The Knock at the Door: A Lesson on Fiscal Insanity and the Schumer Shut Down.

ree

The envelope on the kitchen counter was impossible to ignore — bold red letters read:“PAST DUE NOTICE – ELECTRIC SERVICE TERMINATION WARNING.”One month behind, and the threat of darkness loomed.

Just as worry began to sink in, a knock at the door startled me. Standing there was a sharply dressed elected official, flashing a practiced smile and a flag pin on his lapel.

“Mind if I come in?” he asked warmly.

Politeness won over caution. I invited him in.

He glanced at the past-due notice and sighed dramatically. “Tough times, I see. But before you pay that electric bill,” he said confidently, “you’ll need to handle a few priorities.”

“Priorities?” I asked, confused. “My only priority is keeping the lights on.”

He smiled wider — the kind of grin politicians wear when they’re about to spend someone else’s money.

“Well,” he began, “first, you must purchase a brand-new yacht. You’ll never get to use it, but it represents progress. Then, you’ll need to pay for your neighbor’s home renovations — it’s only fair that everyone benefits. Finally, you’ll have to take out loans in your children’s names. Don’t worry, they’ll pay it off someday.”

I stared at him, speechless.

He patted my shoulder and added with a grin, “Oh, and don’t worry about your power bill. We’ll send another notice next month — after we raise your rates, of course.”

The door clicked shut behind him. The room grew darker, both literally and figuratively. And as I looked down at the past-due notice, I realized the electricity wasn’t the only thing going out — it was common sense.

Moral of the Story

When government officials demand that hardworking Americans spend money they don’t have on things they don’t need — while borrowing against their children’s future — it’s not compassion. It’s fiscal insanity disguised as “fairness.”

A nation that forgets how to live within its means eventually loses more than its power — it loses its freedom.
